Your pregnancy: 18 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

Was that the baby moving?

I wanted to write this down somewhere but I'm no good at keeping journals and a scrap of paper would get lost. Just in case this really was the first time I felt the baby move I wanted to document it somewhere.

So now that I am looking pregnant and wearing crazy jeans that come up to my shoulders so that I don't have to wear stretch pants everywhere I go. I am starting to wonder when I will feel the baby move. I keep asking people with kids what it felt like the first time their babies moved.

Everyone has told me what the books have told me. It feels like indigestion, popcorn popping, a fish swimming, blowing bubbles underwater etc etc.

So last night after dinner a movie and dessert Shaun and I were diving home down 95 and he had the radio up pretty loud, rocking out to some song with alot of bass. I felt something "gurgle" or "bubble" on my right side, then above my belly button, then on my left side. It wasn't in time with the beat of the music but almost in reaction to it. It didn't last very long, but it was three distinct times and it felt the same all three times, almost in a line across my belly.

I really think it was the baby moving and that is cool. Now hopefully it will happen more often and I can confirm that is actually what happened and I can go from just feeling big and wondering why no clothes fit to really knowing there is a little person in there!

Nursery and such

So with the addition of new windows, I get to postpone painting! Gives me more time to think about what I want to do...uhh I mean we want to do :-) Oh and for you nosey people we do intend on finding out the sex, and we will be sure to let you know as soon as we know! So we registered for Winnie the Pooh stuff, but I am still not sure which way to go for the room? Wainscotting(how do you spell that?) is a thought? Who knows only time will tell! It is going to be here before we know it!!

Your pregnancy: 17 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Your pregnancy: 16 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, hishead is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Doctors Visit

Today I had another doctors appointment. I got to hear the heartbeat again (Shaun had to leave before the doctor came in because they were running late today). The heartbeat was between 148-152. I talked to the Dr about Shaun's idea that we are having twins and she doesn't think so since i have only gained one pound in the last 2 months since i started going to this Doctor. But she said the ultra sound would tell us for sure. So Shaun still has 4 weeks to dream about twins. Our next appointment and ultra sound is on February 13th (Friday the 13th - good things we aren't superstitious). This is when they should be able to tell us if we are having a boy or a girl and we have decided to find out, if baby will let us. So 4 weeks and counting we shall see....

Registries

I posted links to our registries today. Please note that these may change as we realize what we need or need more of.

Also, there are some items that are listed on both registries ie: furniture. There are a few things that we couldn't find at Babies'R'Us (high chair and stage 2 car seat) that are listed on Amazon. Honestly, you can probably find any of the Babies'R'Us items on amazon for a lower prices, but Amazon doesn't have a fun scan gun to make registering easy.

We have been told that Pottery Barn Kids have the best crib sheets because they don't shrink but we didn't want to start a 3rd registry, just something to keep in mind.

If you are a parent and see anything that we left off that you couldn't live without please let us know. Thanks!

The nicest husband ever...NOT

So we were cleaning up around the house, and by cleaning I mean throwing tons of stuff away, gotta purge! Anyway back to the story, so I tell Erin....hey today is the first day you look pregnant. I know what you are thinking, what an awful thing to say, but come on now, SHE IS PREGNANT, she should want to look pregnant! Anyway, it was funny....in that haha way not hehe. Goodtimes to come!!

Your pregnancy: 15 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.")

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to Baby Gines....

Welcome to 2009, Year of the Baby!

This week was officially the start of the 2nd trimester so we are 1/3 of the way there. It has also been 8 weeks since I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant! I am sure that the next 6 months are going to fly by and honestly I can't wait!! I know I am going to look back at this blog from New Years Day and remember that I had the time to mess around on my laptop and be lazy in my PJs and wonder why I wanted everything to go buy so fast. But I can't wait to see our baby and see who he or she will look like and what their personality will be. So with that in mind I say grow baby grow and I will see you soon!
